[James Rubin collection of Indian classical music, 1957-1987]

A collection of field and commercial recordings primarily of major South Indian classical musicians, compiled by James Rubin between 1957 and 1989 during a series of trips to various locations in India and in the United States. During Rubin's lifetime, the collection was administered by the Pan Orient Arts Foundation. The collection also includes published books, concert program books, and miscellaneous ancillary materials. The 78 rpm recordings were originally collected by Hyman Bloom and given by him to James Rubin.
